Titirangi Volunteer Coastguard

Manukau Volunteer Coastguard became operational in 1969 in response to the need for more rescue resources in the Manukau Harbour, working alongside Papakura Coastguard. Manukau's first dedicated rescue vessel was "Waste Management Rescue" with the call sign ZMWM which has been kept and is still in use today on the smaller of their vessels, "Manukau Rescue 2".

The units primary rescue resource is a 12.5m Protector “Trusts Rescue” and holds the call sign ZMT7878.

The unit originally set up their base at French Bay on the northern side of the Manukau Harbour and this has proven to be a good location, providing quick response times for both the Manukau Bar and up to the port of Onehunga. The unit currently have 30 active crew who are all on pager call-out, expected to respond 24/7 in all weather conditions.
