A weather forecast is a MUST each and every time you plan your boating and again before you leave the ramp or mooring.

Every minute this information is updated and broadcast continuously along with the latest weather forecast and tides on VHF Channel 21 (Waitemata Harbour, Inner Hauraki Gulf and Bay of Islands) Channel 20 (outer Hauraki Gulf), Channel 22 (Manukau Harbour, West Coast - Kawhia to Manukau Heads) and Channel 23 (West Coast - Kaipara and Far North).
Coastguard Northern Region members can have this information text messaged to their cell phone at no extra charge, together with the latest forecast and next high tide information. The first 50 data returns per annum are complimentary to CNR members. After that you pay $1.50 for each time you receive the data by text.
Please note that you must register your cell phone number to receive the messages back at no charge. Other cell phones numbers can also use text Nowcasting but will be charged $1.50 cents for every data message sent back. For non members there is a charge of $1.50 per text.
Coastguard Northern Region is pleased to announce that you can now receive Nowcasting texts for the Northland area.
To receive Nowcasting Text:
• Text the letter “A” to “WIND’ (9463) to receive Nowcasting data for Auckland. This will generate a reply giving you data from seven sites in the Hauraki Gulf followed by the abbreviated weather forecast and next high tide at Auckland.
• Text the letter “N” to WIND (9463) to receive Nowcasting data for Northland including Hokianga, Cape Karikari, Cape Reinga, Bay of Islands, Tutukaka and the Moko Hinau Islands followed by the abbreviated forecast for the Brett sea area and the next high tide time at Opua.
* first 50 data returns per annum are complimentary to Coastguard Northern Region Members. Thereafter each access attracts a fee of $1.50.

Please note that if you have changed mobile phone numbers (even from an 025 number to an 0274 number) you will need to notify us so that we can get your records changed, otherwise you will be charged for each text you receive. |
