Aim: To gain essential boating knowledge and safety.
Qualification: NZ Day Skipper Certificate (Unit Standard 26542 available).
Course Content: Boat familiarisation, navigation techniques, rules and regulations, emergency equipment and usage.
The NZ Day Skipper course is designed particularly for those who go boating in small craft, in runabouts, jet skis, sea kayaks and in trailer yachts - the “Day Sailor” - who uses the boat for fishing, water skiing, picnicking, diving, family outings and generally “messing about.” As well as for skippers of boats, it is ideal for all members of family or crew, or those who could suddenly be left in command of a vessel.
Whether for a boating newcomer, or someone with years of experience - there is always something to learn. The course provides the opportunity to update skills, acquire more knowledge, make boating more enjoyable for yourself and crew and instil safe boating practices. The objective is to help recreational boat users avoid getting into difficulties by understanding the maritime environment, the capabilities of their boats, the rules of the sea, and the action to be taken in emergencies.
The NZ Day Skipper offers a short course in basic boat safety, which will help you gain confidence and enhance your enjoyment. It is an interesting course of approximately 12-15 hours, in formats to suit - weekends, day courses, evenings. It is broken into 5 units:
- Unit 1 The Boat - terminology, equipment
- Unit 2 Navigation
- Unit 3 Rules & Regulations
- Unit 4 Emergencies
- Unit 5 Knots
Course Fee: $195.00 per person.
Includes manual and exam.
