Whangaroa

Whangaroa Volunteer Coastguard Radio Association, based in the marlin capital of the world, operates on VHF channel 62, 24 hours a day, 365 a year.  The unit also have single sideband facilities available on request on frequencies 2089 and 4417 kHz.  Outside the harbour a Nowcasting service operates on VHF channel 20.  Whangaroa does not operate a dedicated rescue vessel, however they have over 100 privately owned vessels at their disposal and there are no delays in alerting crews.

Whangaroa are a very friendly unit and state "You only have to ask for any help required"

Weather broadcasts three times a day at 0800, 1300, 1745 on VHF chn 62

Whangaroa Marina can be contacted on VHF chn 12 coming into the harbour.

There are no petrol facilities available at Whangaroa, the closest is in the town of Kaeo, some 9 km away.  Diesel is available at Clansman Wharf or the Totara North Wharf, a Mobil or BP fuelcard is required.

Fresh water is available at the Coastguard Water Buoy "Viagra Falls" on the northern side of Pararako Bay in position 36 01.18S  173 46.07E.  Please put a $5 donation in the floating bottle.
