Whangarei

Whangarei Volunteer Coastguard owns and operates a radio communications channel (ch 64), and have had their own Dedicated Rescue Vessel, Superyacht City Rescue, since 2003.   The radio is manned 24/7 by a team of enthusiastic volunteers.  The DRV is a 6.8 m Naiad with twin 115 h/p Yamaha four-stroke outboards.  This gives the boat a top speed of 39 knots, fully laden.

The unit covers the area from Bream Head in the north out to, and including, the Moko Hinau Islands, and down to Mangawhai Heads in the south.  Also in this area is the entire Whangarei Harbour, as well as the Marsden Point Oil Refinery.
