Lion Foundation

Running a 14.5m Rescue Vessel is no mean feat.

Apart from the obvious fuel costs, maintenance must be at a high level to ensure complete reliability whenever the boat is required.

Because the boat is crewed by volunteers 24 hrs a day/365 days a year, several teams are required to ensure complete coverage without too much encroachment into employers’ and families’ times.

Each of these crew must be trained to a high level of seamanship, in search and rescue techniques, and in marine first aid.

Navigational and first aid equipment must be kept in top condition, and at the levels that might be required for a significant incident in the Gulf.

Without the Lion Foundation, Auckland would not have the benefits that this rescue boat has to offer.

The Foundation’s principle function is the operation of Gaming Machines on Hotel sites throughout the country.

All proceeds from these machines are returned to the community in the form of grants from the Foundation. It is currently donating around four and a half million dollars per month!
